Lionel Sandner, B. Ed., M. Ed.
Over the past nine years, Lionel has been lead author and senior consultant on numerous Science education resources across Canada, including Addison-Wesley Science & Technology 3–8 , Addison-Wesley Science in Action 7–9 , Addison-Wesley Science 10, Pearson Physics, BC Science 8–10 (McGraw-Hill Ryerson), Science Foundations 10 (Edvantage Press) and www.bcscience.com (Edvantage Press). Lionel is a Prime Minister’s Award winner and has taught Science for 18 years. He has also worked for the B.C. Ministry of Education, including acting as the Lead Coordinator for the Pan-Canadian Science Project. He has also taught Science methods and first-year Physics at the University of Victoria. Lionel is now the President of Edvantage Press which has partnered with Pearson to publish Investigating Science and Technology.

Nora Alexander, B. Sc., B. Ed.
Nora is a scientist, educator, and author with a number of previous educational publications to her credit, including Addison-Wesley Science and Technology , and Addison-Wesley Math Makes Sense. She has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. Nora is currently a classroom teacher in the Durham District School Board.
Mike Carlin, B. Sc., M. Ed.
Mike received an Honours Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Western Ontario in 1986, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor in 1990, and a Master’s of Education from Nipissing University in 2003. He began his teaching career with York Region in 1990 teaching Special Education and Grade 6, 7, and 8 Science. Later, he spent four years teaching at an Outdoor Education Day centre. He returned to the classroom where he taught Grade 7 and 8 Science until 2007. He is currently a Vice Principal in a K–8 school with the York Region District School Board, in Ontario.
Glen Fatkin, B. Ed.
Glen Fatkin has taught general Science and Physics in British Columbia for the last 25 years. During this time, Glen has also been a member of the B.C. Physics 11/12 curriculum development team, the Pan-Canadian Science Framework team, and the provincial post-secondary articulation committee. As well, Glen has been involved in the Physics Provincial Examinations at many different levels. During the last two years, Glen has written units for BC Science 9 and 10 (McGraw-Hill Ryerson), as well as Investigating Science and Technology. In 2007 Glen was also an "Iron Science Teacher" finalist.
Doug Herridge, B. Sc., M. Ed.
Doug currently teaches Grade 8 Core and Intermediate Science in the York Region District School Board. He has taught in all elementary grades throughout the board and spent five and half years as the Board’s Science consultant. Doug was also seconded for three years to the Faculty of Education at York University where he was a course director in the Mathematics, Science, and Technology program. He has an Honours Bachelor of Science, a Graduate Degree in Early Childhood Education, and a Master’s Degree in Special Education. Doug has written a number of different Science resources, including Addison-Wesley Science and Technology. He has also consulted and presented workshops locally, provincially, and internationally on Science education.
Michael Lattner, B. Sc., M. Sc..
Michael is currently Special Assignment Teacher for the Secondary School Learning Network of the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board in Ontario. In this role, Michael presents and facilitates curriculum and professional development opportunities for intermediate and senior teachers related to topics that include assessment and evaluation, cross-curricular literacy strategies, eLearning, and supports board-wide strategies for the Student Success initiative. In addition, Michael is a partner in Ross Lattner Educational Consultants. Michael has been teaching Science since 1987. He has a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology and a Master of Science in Forest Ecology. Before teaching, Michael was a Wildlife Biologist and worked for the Grand River Conservation Authority in Cambridge and Ducks Unlimited Canada in Kingston.
Catherine Little, B. Sc., B. Ed.
Catherine is an experienced educator with extensive experience at the intermediate level. She has been a Science and Technology teacher, Science Department chair, and Science and Technology Instructional Leader for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). Currently she is a Program Coordinator in the Science, Environmental and Ecological Studies Department for TDSB. Catherine has written for professional journals, such as Educational Leadership , and has co-written books about Canada, Mathematics, Science, and English Language Learners in recent years. Most recently, she was a lead writer of the Revised Science and Technology Curriculum (2007) in Ontario and co-author of From Engagement to Empowerment: Reflections on Science Education For Ontario.
Jim Walsh, B. Ed.
Jim followed a labyrinthine path through many other careers to arrive at his vocation as a teacher. As a curriculum consultant for the Ottawa Carleton District School Board (2003–2006), Jim advocated for a wide range of system initiatives, including ushering in revised curriculum in several disciplines (Mathematics, Science, History/Geography) in addition to ministry mandates related to at-risk students, balanced literacy, assessment, and professional learning communities. In 2006, Jim was seconded full time to the University of Ottawa as an instructor in the Faculty of Education. His portfolio includes studies in the teaching of Science and Mathematics at both the J/I and I/S divisions as well as mentoring in the practicum studies area.
Sandy M. Wohl, B. Sc., M. Ed.
Sandy has provided professional development for thousands of elementary and secondary teachers in Canada and the United States and has written and consulted on more than 15 textbooks. Sandy is a recipient of numerous national and international teaching awards, including the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence. After 34 years of teaching in all divisions, Sandy currently teaches in the Curriculum Studies Department, in the Faculty of Education of the University of British Columbia. Sandy regularly gives conference presentations and workshops on literacy, visualization as a learning strategy, and inductive thinking and Science teaching strategies.

Jay Ingram, B. Sc., M. Sc.
ACTRA award winner, and co-host and producer of Daily Planet, on Discover Channel Canada, television’s first daily Science show, Jay has long had an awareness of the importance of Science in today’s society. He is a prolific communicator in print, radio, and TV, and is the author of nine books. Jay’s work in popularizing Science has been recognized by the Sanford Fleming Medal, the Royal Society of Canada McNeil Medal, the NSERC Michael Smith Award for Science Promotion, and by honorary doctorate degrees from four Canadian universities.
Sandra Mirabelli, B. A., B. Ed.
Sandra currently works as a Literacy Consultant with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and has taught in the primary, junior, and intermediate divisions. Most of her teaching career has been spent as a Grade 7 and 8 classroom teacher focusing on areas of Language, Science, and Visual Arts. Sandra has also been a part of a number of board level writing teams and recently developed Literacy Meets Art for Grade 7 and 8 after-school programs.
