About STEP:

Steps to English Proficiency (STEP) is “a framework for assessing and monitoring the language acquisition and literacy development of English language learners across the Ontario Curriculum” (Step: A Guide for Users, 2015, p4). It encompasses four main levels: Grades 1–3, Grades 4–6, Grades 7–8, and Grades 9–12, each focusing on the four key language skills: Oral Language (including Listening and Speaking), Reading, and Writing.
