Melissa Purcell is Denesuline and a member of Thebatthi in Treaty 8 territory. She is an Executive Staff Officer, Indigenous Education, with the Alberta Teachers’ Association and leads Indigenous Education and Walking Together: Education for Reconciliation for educators.

Canoes by Robert Cutting Robert Cutting was a Program Consultant for the Durham Catholic District School Board, where he continues to be a member of the Aboriginal Education Advisory Circle. Robert is of Kanien'kehaka (Mohawk) ancestry.

In 2013, her book Big Red Lollipop was chosen by the New York Public Library as one of the 100 great children’s books in the last 100 years.
