Brief Description: 

This session supports implementation of The Phonics Companion, written by Dr. George Georgiou and Kristy Dunn. Topics that will be covered include: 

  • What is phonics and why should I teach phonics to my students?
  • How can I assess my students' phonics knowledge?
  • What is a good scope and sequence for teaching phonics?
  • What does "The Phonics Companion" cover? We will walk you through the content of the book and a lesson plan.

Looking for vetted, DEI-aligned resources that integrate Indigenous perspectives across multiple content areas?  This session will showcase user-friendly, cross-curricular resources designed to support students and teachers in grades 3-8, with a focus on science, mathematics, and more.
