Prima’s Problem is a humourous, realistic fiction story about a girl who questions her classmates’ decision to bring a frog from the schoolyard into the classroom. Clear, simple ideas are easy to identify and understand. Dialogue in the text is assigned. An activity at the end of the book invites students to think beyond the text.
Illustrations enhance the enjoyment of the book, but are not necessary for understanding. Punctuation includes periods, commas, question marks, exclamation marks, and quotation marks. Ellipses are used at the end of the book to indicate an unfinished thought. The book has eleven pages.
The book contains one-, two-, three-, and four-syllable words with some picture support. Verbs with inflectional ending of –ed and –ing, a range of plurals, contractions, and sentences with variation in placement of subject, verb, adjectives, and adverbs are used in the text. Compound words are included. Some sentences have subordinate clauses and conjunctions. Some words appear in the vocabulary of mature language users.
