I haven’t moved to FPC yet, but it aligns with my approach to teaching, what do I need to consider?

Fountas and Pinnell have created a downloadable 4 step  Interactive Action Plan  that will help you transform that vision into action.

Step  1– Define your vision and values Envision the ideal design for literacy instruction in your classroom. What are your values and vision for the literacy lives of the students you teach?

Step 2 – Set your goals. Self-assess your current literacy instruction and identify and prioritize your implementation and instructional goals.

Step 3 - Get to Know Fountas & Pinnell Classroom™. Use this section to get to know the system so you can begin to plan how FPC can help you meet the literacy goals you have for your students

Step 4 – Plan your Literacy Time. Time for literacy is critical, but finding time to fit it all in can be a challenge. Thoughtful and intentional planning is needed to ensure efficient, engaging, and effective literacy opportunities in your classroom. As you plan your day and your year, consider the length of your instructional time for literacy. This will help you to prioritize instructional goals and actions.

So how do I go about implementing FPC in my classroom? — I have started using FPC, I need some guidance to get started.

Whether you are already using FPC or you are considering it, turning a vision into action requires thoughtful planning and organizing. Fountas & Pinnell Classroom™ is a literacy system that allows you to operationalize your vision. You may be asking yourself, “Where do I start?” The downloadable Interactive Implementation Plan will get you up and running. The three steps in this implementation plan are designed to put you, your students, and your school on the path to literacy success.

Step One – Unpack your system. The guide will walk you through all the components in either the complete system or the individual instructional contexts and provides organizational tips.

Step Two – Organize your Classroom.  This section helps you explore and envision how to plan the layout of your classroom, consider suggestions and examples for arranging your classroom and ideas on how to organize learning tools to optimize effective teaching and learning

Step Three – Implement your FPC – this section will help you plan the first few weeks of using FPC in your  classroom and help you develop your professional learning path so you can use the resources as effectively as possible. It walks you through the range of support materials that are available to help you learn
