George Georgiou
Dr. Georgiou is a professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Alberta and the director of the Reading Research Laboratory. His research focuses on two dimensions of literacy acquisition: (a) the factors (cognitive and non-cognitive) that facilitate or impede reading and spelling acquisition across languages, and (b) the diagnosis and remediation of reading difficulties in elementary school children.
Dr. Georgiou is the associate editor of the Reading and Writing journal and alsosits on the editorial board of many international journals, including Journal of Educational Psychology,Annals of Dyslexia, and Scientific Studies of Reading. He has received numerous awards, including the Killam Professorship and the Alberta Teachers’ Association Educational Research Award. For his literacy work with children in Alberta schools, he has been named to the College of the Royal Society of Canada.
