One resource. Every strand. Endless opportunities for learning.
Literacy Success English 7 consists of 30 engaging, contemporary text selections with explicit teaching support to address all strands of the English Language Arts curriculum throughout the country. The selections are written by many diverse authors such as Heather Smith, Lawrence Hill, and Niigaan Sinclair, with 5 of the 30 written by Indigenous authors.
The age-appropriate selections include non-fiction text, short stories, poems, essays, novel excerpts, graphic texts, and short films. Each non-Indigenous authored text selection includes three explicit lessons within the Teacher's Resource with a focus on
- Comprehension
- Foundations
- Composition
In the Composition lesson, the selection is used as a mentor text for student writing.
The lessons for the 5 Indigenous authored selections will focus on one of the following:
- Relationship
- Responsibility
- Reciprocity
- Respect
- Relevance
Each lesson follows a three-part structure that includes:
- Minds-On - active learning opportunities to engage students and activate thinking
- Action - explicit, direct instruction targeting specific learning objectives
- Consolidation - activities, prompts, and/or questions to connect new learning to existing knowledge and skills
The content and structure of the lessons provide ongoing opportunities for word study, as well as oral language and vocabulary development. The teacher's resource will include suggestions for differentiation and assessment support.
Both the student resource and teacher's resource are available in print and digital format. The digital student resource includes audio versions of each print selection.
