This text gives your students the chance to absorb and replicate the grammatical structures used by some of the best writers of our times. Included among the over 150 authors, 200 titles, and 400 model sentences in this book are award-winning young-adult literature such as Cynthia Voigt’s Homecoming, popular favourites like J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter, and curricular staples such as John Steinbeck’s The Red Pony and The Pearl.
Fourteen grammatical structures are developed in the same predictable, understandable manner, using the sentence-composing approach. When students first encounter a tool, it is clearly defined and characterized. Then it’s practiced through five activities: matching, unscrambling, combining, imitating, and expanding. Finally, a creative writing activity immerses students in the composition or revision of a paragraph through independent use of the sentence-composing tools they have already learned.
Don Killgallon
Don Killgallon is the originator of the sentence-composing approach and author of numerous sentence-composing worktexts. He is the author or coauthor of Paragraphs for Middle School (2013), Paragraphs for High School (2012),Grammar for College Writing (2010), Story Grammar for Elementary School(2008), Grammar for High School (2007), Grammar for Middle School (2006), Sentence Composing for Elementary School (2000), Sentence Composing for High School (1998), Sentence Composing for College (1998), Sentence Composing for Middle School (1997), and Daily Sentence Composing (Great Source). He’s a veteran teacher of secondary English, a former specialist in middle and high school education for the state of Maryland, and currently a teacher of writing at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

She is a veteran teacher of secondary English, and former writing specialist for the state of Maryland. She currently teaches ninth-grade English at Maryvale Preparatory School in Brooklandville, Maryland.
