welcome to mathology.ca in this video i'm going to show you some of the tools to help you assess and keep track of student learning mathology.ca helps you to determine what students know and how to move them forward today i'm going to use one of the lessons i've already pinned to my home screen this is a grade 5 lesson that will focus on addition and addition strategies with numbers to ten thousand if we go into the lesson we'll see that students are going to be collecting money for a fundraiser by cashing in checks and keeping track of the total in the consolidation you see a variety of different strategies that students may use at this time you might want to use the assessment line master if you click on it you're able to print out all the strategies and behaviors that you might be looking for so you can keep track along the way you can also keep track of all of this in the assessment tab here i've uploaded my grade 5 demo class if you'd like to create your own classroom you can do that by clicking on student management in the top right corner as teachers are walking around they notice a variety of different strategies that students are using or behaviors they display as they see those strategies they can click on individual students and drag and drop them into the box they can also keep track of what they saw students do perhaps they were using a number line as you continue to talk about addition strategies and this student moves along the continuum and you drag and drop them further along ideally into the last box meeting on grade expectations you'll notice that it's time stamped as we move along to show not only where they end up but where they came from as well by clicking on the next steps you see a next step immediately in the moment to help move them into that final box for additional next steps you can go into the next steps tab here you see a variety of mini lessons as intervention or extension if your students need that it gives you some suggestions or look fors of misconceptions that students may have as well as next steps in class and at home that can all be easily printed with this green button in the bottom right corner once you've gathered data for a variety of lessons you can take a closer look at the analytics by clicking on the analytics tab in the top right corner you can take a look at how your class and individual students are doing i need to set this to grade 5 and now i can see all the assessments that i've done with my class if i scroll back up to the top i personally love the curriculum view it gives me a really quick glance at each one of the expectations when i open up the expectation i can see how my students are doing on this particular overall if i click on another one it'll open up to c here you'll notice the status as either on track in progress or in some cases needing attention if i scroll back up to the top i can toggle between my whole class and individual students in this case we'll take a closer look at dimitri using the curriculum view here we can see for the first overall expectation he's doing well being on track with representing larger numbers and exploring taxes but we may need to go back and revisit equivalent fractions if i click on the second overall you'll notice that i do need to pay closer attention to when he's subtracting with decimal numbers if i click on the details i can see a little bit more information about what exactly he can do and any comments i may have added along the way if you prefer all of this information can be exported into a document or even printed to make it easier for you let's go back home for a quick recap remember that each lesson has an assessment tab where you're able to gather data for your class by dragging and dropping students into the box you've got immediate next steps in the moment as well as next steps in the tab all of this information is gathered by analytics both for your whole class as well as individual students
