[Music] this video describes the assessment techniques used in Rise and Shine every learner is different so it is essential that teachers use a range of assessment strategies to monitor progress both assessment for Learning and assessment of of [Music] learning assessment for learning is an important tool for monitoring learner progress the key here is using your students work to inform your teaching the Teacher book introduction provides an overview of the assessment for learning techniques used to help build a supportive and motivating learning environment at the beginning of each unit the Teacher book gives a clear overview of the key learning outcomes for each stage of the lesson the key progress indicators for the course speaking or writing global scale of English learning objectives covered in the unit along with a description of what this might look like in practice the relevant gsse learning objectives also appear at the beginning of each lesson in the teachers book along with detailed teaching notes on how to present the lesson [Music] objective throughout the teachers book extra notes and activities to support assessment for learning are built into the teaching notes to make it easy to put them into practice a variety of techniques are covered and include ideas for giving Learners extra support ideas for stretching Learners who are more advanced signposted introduce diagnose and assess activities and reflection [Music] activities there are many opportunities throughout for Learners to decide how confident they feel about their learning the final shine stage of every unit gives Learners and teachers an opportunity to review [Music] progress the progress chart at the front of the book allows teachers to monitor learning and fill any [Music] gaps assessment of learning usually takes place after the learning has happened and provides information about what Learners have achieved by giving a mark however you can also use the same tests as an assessment for learning tool for providing feedback tests in Rise and Shine are all available on the Pearson English portal additional guidance can be found in the assessment pack section of the resources [Music] area the diagnostic test activities can be used at the start of the year to review learning from the previous year and assess learner needs and abilities unit test activities can be used at the end of each unit to monitor progress to give feedack back and to identify areas requiring Improvement progress review and end of level test activities are cumulative and can be used as informative and evaluative tests for reporting purposes test activities are available in multiple versions you may also want to use the English Benchmark Young Learners test to monitor longer term progress and get tailored recommendations for each learner we have now discussed assessment in Rise and Shine to learn about other aspects of the course explore the course [Music] materials
