Intro [Music] as a practicing principle we can often Mentor-Coaching Institute be pulled in many directions the Urgent and the important seem to take over and sometimes that makes us feel good it makes us feel like we're working very hard but not always efficiently and so I found that with the mentor coach training one of the things that worked uh most powerfully for me was being able to be present in the moment with the person that I was speaking to so often people ask us about the actual structure of the course it's offered um over three sessions which is actually four days two days plus one day plus one day with time in between the sessions uh to give people an opportunity to go out to try on the skill in their particular context come back debrief and extend the learning what we also knew from the beginning was it had to be a course that extended over a period of time so people could come in practice in a safe place get some skills literally practice them in the room get some feedback and then go out into the field as a teacher my first Beginnings with Mentor coach Peppi Kondilis-Minos involved listening uh to and making sure that I was fully present for the client and participant the mentor coaching Institute the mentor coach approach um to building capacity is really about working from the inside out and this is a phrase that we've coined and have explored in all kinds of ways both in how we structure the learning opportunities to how the skills and the structure of the conversation are facilitated if professional learning is structured in experiential practical way over time with strong support in in the classroom and in between um through resources and so forth and each other people can really learn and grow and change their practice Develop an understanding of the mentor.coaching model I feel that at every stage of my roles and uh career the mentor coach has benefited me and uh aided me in different situations by bringing these two pieces together and offering it as a Learn basic coaching skills, principles, tools... mentor coaching approach not only leverages the wisdom and the experiences of practitioners that have been in the field for an extended period of time and really bringing that knowledge back into play but also then having the skills the coaching skills uh to be able to help move those those Learn how to navigate a structured coaching conversation experiences from the seasoned veteran from the mentor and to use it in a way that is really supportive and helps to build the capacity in the mentee The Clarity that this the skills of Practise peer coaching feedback, reflection mentoring and coaching cultivated are applicable everywhere so there's real real excitement in the participants I think about how the skills that they're learning are relevant in their classrooms with students they're relevant among colleagues I feel that the mentor coach work also um is one where um stakeholders can then come together support parents and students so that they feel that they're contributing members to uh the larger Community I feel like I have arrived at a point now where I can blend that experience of being a school administrator with the coaching training that I have had um often what people mention is that it has Set personal learning and leadership intentions... really made them more self-aware in terms of their own Tendencies to fix and solve um to do the work for the other when you know as a as an educator when you're supporting the learning process helping to grow Independence and help build Build capacity as individuals and as an organization capacity means that we need to step back so this course really has provided people with the tools and the strategies and fundamental Mentor coaching principles to be able to do that in a Mentoring and coaching powerful allies very real [Music] way
