I guess one of the biggest questions I'm
asked as a high school math teacher is
can I come in for help or the other
question from parents is do you know of
a good tun
and um really students are looking for
assistance welcome to math Excel an
award-winning online tutorial system
that personalizes instruction according
to the needs of an individual one of the
things that math EXL does for me is it
gives students uh another Avenue to go
to when they're struggling math Excel
really gives them questions to do and it
gets them involved with the questions
even when they ask for help um they help
me solve it really um insists that
students interact with the with the
program and it ask them questions and
they have to respond back before they
take the next
step okay so I'm a busy student and I'm
involved in a lot of activities outside
of school I need to find time to do my
math homework and math Excel is really
efficient is a really efficient way of
doing that I think one of the the
strongest features of math Excel is the
uh study plan uh where each individual
student can can go in and do an exam or
a quiz um and based on the results it
then personalizes a study plan for them
um it directs them to those questions
that they need to work on uh it tells
them what they do well uh what they
don't do so well it directs them and
says here's some things that you need to
work on to a Mastery and it gives them
that opportunity to work on it math
Excel does definitely tell you U what
strengths you have or weaknesses even if
the teacher does quizzes or the tests
the practice exams on the math Excel
program uh at the end of the math Excel
program or exam you can it shows you
which questions you got wrong and which
questions you got right and then from
there you can go to a study guide which
helps you tells you wish to study more
and to practice more on they know when
they look at the study plan they see the
concepts that that they have mastered um
and what's nice is it doesn't just tell
them the section it says you understand
this you understand this concept here
are the concepts you need to work on and
then it directs them to those questions
that they need to work on with the
supports built in without the study plan
you wouldn't know what you need to work
on and what what areas you need more
helping it builds a study plan not for
the class but for each individual
student um and it's really tailored to
each individual students needs so really
it's assessment for learning in

action math Excel is pre-populated with
questions that match the textbook
exercises the questions are
algorithmically generated so a student
can practice the same question but with
different numbers until the skill is
mastered and if a student gets stuck
there are learning aids to help them
along well before math Excel you would
have to search for the questions that
you need to work on in your textbook and
that's not always easy to do and if you
can't figure it out you'd have to wait
for the next day or the next whenever to
ask your teacher for the help but with
math Excel it takes you through step by
step and it helps you learn it pretty
much on your own so it's just like
having a tutor there with you but it's
not they don't have to spend 20 minutes
30 minutes trying to figure out where
the step is that they need help on they
can identify it it's right here on a
certain question they can work through
it quickly and efficiently and everybody
goes away happy it tells you what you
did wrong it tells you maybe check your
calculations or you know the fractions
right and make sure you have to reduce
and so then you go to the help box and
then from there I could go step by step
of how it help that problem and then the
great thing is that once you're done
with the uh the step by step of how it
help the problems it starts a whole new
question so it's a little bit of
variation answers you can try on your
own they work through a question they
see that it's not quite right um okay I
need help and then they can see another
example the same Concepts the same
principles just different numbers um and
for some that throws them a loop because
they think it's different but it's not
the numbers that's different the concept
Remains the Same the principles remain
the same and they have to have that
foundation and that's what Ma math Excel
does it works them through slowly and
surely making sure they get it so they
can move on confidently you can look at
your textbook you can look at an example
that is similar to the question that is
being asked it's not exactly the same
but it is similar and if you don't
understand it will give you it there's a
tool that it says help me solve this and
it will take you through step by step
and work you through the problem to help
you solve it correctly and one of the
things I've noticed with math Exel is
that often um when they want that
assistance is not a time when I'm
available they'll often be using math
Excel late at night or early in the
morning and that's one of the wonderful
features of math Excel is it's available
when they are ready for it you can use
at your own time you don't have to you
know follow somebody else's instructions
you can go on your own you can choose
what questions you that you need help in
it allows me to go on my own pace and do
the it's easier to find what I'm looking
to study for with mouth Excel each
student can be working on the areas they
need to work on those individualized
study plans and really it's
differentiated then for each student
each student gets what they need as
opposed to what one or two students
needs in the classroom we didn't see her
spinning her tires we didn't see her
frustrated um and it gave her that
immediate feedback that allowed her to
to understand and to move on at that
time

with the homework and test manager
teachers can customize homework
assignments quizzes and
tests progress reports let students know
how they are doing and with Gradebook a
teacher can not only review a student's
progress but can monitor how much time
was spent on an assignment and even add
a comment for the student to read
later one of the nice features about
math Excel is the Gradebook um every
time a student is using math Excel in
terms of doing a lesson or doing a quiz
or a test um students are given that
immediate feedback in terms of whether
they're getting things right or wrong
correct or incorrect um and that data is
is kept in a grade book in math Excel
that I as a teacher then can can go and
take a look at and I can take try to
look for Trends are students struggling
with this one particular assignment if
so that's information that's really
valuable to me because then I can go
back and I can uh try to address those
needs of my CL not only my those
individual students but of my classroom
and that's

important so when you on into math ex
Cel you go right into your homepage on
the right hand side you have it's right
there you have all your percentage of
what you've gone in each thing you have
done so it's great adds the little dots
or stars or diamonds for if you did a
test or you did a practice quiz or you
just did homework so from there there it
tells you which ones you got percentages
of and what your average is at the Cur
moment which I think is a great thing to
know where you are at at the course
you're taking so if you say you got a
70% on a quiz that means that you can go
right into the study guide or your
practice and you go right into that quiz
and redo it again as much as you want I
think the the data that it gives
students as well is really useful it
tells them on this assignment you got
70% or 80% um it then allows them to go
back and review the questions they don't
get it also directs them to a study plan
which is really
powerful throughout the year usually I
find Kids Marks slowly tend to decline
um they start off really strong and then
as the year wears on and work gets more
abstract and more complicated the marks
tend to slide a little bit but those
students that have used the math Excel
extensively um I find that their marks
aren't sliding and in most cases they're
actually improving yeah my friends know
I use math Excel and they kind of Wonder
like where my marks are coming from and
why they're so good now and I tell them
it's because of math Excel because math
Excel helps me to just learn everything
that I need to and prepare for tests and
exams her marks have improved um as I
said I think the the whole issue has
been a confidence level uh issue um she
would she would go into the exam
thinking well I'm not sure how this is
going to pan out but by using the
program by using math Exel we're seeing
that she can work her way through the
relevant information um probably a lot
quicker the study time has been more
quality and um I think it's just been a
huge Boon to to her confidence and and
probably lends itself to other things as
well I had a a number of students come
to me and thank me afterwards saying
that math Excel has really really helped
them in terms of their math and thank
you so much the other night I had a
parent stop me and thank me once again
for math Excel saying that that was so
helpful that it took her daughter from
failing mathematics to passing
mathematics so she was really really
pleased with the product people are wear
them using math Excel cuz you know I I
actually tell them that you know oh I
use math Excel it's a great thing that's
why you know I'm getting good marks on
tests you know like CU I it's a great
way study
